Below you will find some of my scribes from over the years. Many helped me put things into perspective during times of trauma and deep sadness. Others helped to relieve the frustrations suffered at the hands of the ignorant, disrespectful and the greedy......

'SEEING IS BELIEVING'
© 1994

To see beyond the clouds of fog before these eyes of mine
To see the beauty of this earth where jewels of nature shine
Behold the sparkling seas and the shining stars above
The details on the faces of the people that I love
To peer beyond the blur is all I long to do
Surely, not a selfish thing to want to see from here to you?
To see a dancing snowflake or a tiny drop of rain
To watch the birds migrating without the slightest strain

Seeing is believing is what they always say
But people do not realise when you cannot find your way
They think you're drunk or doing drugs, you just look like a fool
When you cannot read the signpost or understand the rule
The panic and frustration is something I must bear
So do not think unkindly when I turn to you and stare
I'm only trying to focus on expressions from your being
and to see if what you saw is the same as what I'm seeing
One day I hope I'll see your world exactly as you do
My eyes will not deceive me and I'll look at life anew....

'DEAR MOTHER'
© 1997

Gentle hand and patient heart
Guiding me right from the start
Held me when I feared the dark
Dear Mother

Let me talk and dance and sing
Taught me almost everything
Showed me all that life could bring
Dear Mother

Always there both night and day
Smiling from her heart she'd say
Don't forget work, rest and play
Dear Mother

My childhood seemed so full of thrills
Where did she learn so many skills
Cooking, nursing, paying bills
Dear Mother

She gave me life when she gave birth
I'd pick her every flower on earth
To let her know just what she's worth
Dear Mother

'NO HOGOAK TIP '
© 1992

This was written in support of Roger Carter Chairman of the County Council for Berkshire and
Annie Reynolds, Hon. Treasurer of the BIFFA Appeal in 1992 when BIFFA was trying to expand it's landfill sites in Berkshire.

Do you ever stop to listen
To the gentle breeze
And the songs of the birds
In the Windsor trees?
Do you ever smell the meadows
Washed by the rain
Or watch a squirrel scurry
Down a Maidenhead lane?
Have you ever been to Berkshire
Where the beech trees stand
Like soldiers protecting
Our greenbelt land?
Richard Biffa doesn't care
Nor does Malcolm Lee
As they plan their waste disposal site
They don't think of you or me
Methane poisoning our skies
A billion rats and flies
And as our country dies
They have bank notes in their eyes
The waste can be recycled
Let our wildlife be
Stop another massacre by
the "TERRAMICUS" company
Ten more years of refuse
At a height of forty feet
Do you think that John Majors
Would have this on his street?
We are forced to pay our Poll Tax
and outrageous VAT
Is it wrong for us to ask
For some health and sanity?
Must we chain ourselves to railings?
Don't they know it's suicide
To destroy the fragile balance
Of our sacred countryside?
May Richard Biffa and John Majors
Hear the weeping of our land
Every night may they be haunted
Maybe then they'll understand...

'COME TO ME SOFTLY'
© 2006

Come to me softly in Summer
Whisper words I'll believe
Come to me gently in Autumn
Gentle as falling leaves
Come to me quietly in Winter
Silent as silken snow
Come to me slowly in Spring
Together we will grow

Nothing lasts forever
Nothing stays the same
Make the most of what we have
Sustain this fragile flame
We must cherish every hour
Our tempers we must tame
If you should lose this love we found
For glory or for fame
Or take a chance and lie to me
For money or for name
You'll be alone as seasons pass
and know who you can blame

Come to me softly when daylight turns dusk
Watch sunsets in silence, come down from the rush
Come to me gently when dusk turns blue black
Our strength is our trust and we'll never look back
Come to me quietly in the first light of day
Kiss me awake, brush my nightmares away
Come to me always like I come to you
Then now and forever our dreams will come true

'SAPPHIRE EYES'
© 1985

She saw the world through sapphire eyes
No despair and no despise
Her innocence could hypnotize
No demands and no disguise
She loved to laugh and fantasize
Seeing all through sparkling eyes
She met a man to idolize
Never knew the sacrifice
Didn't know she'd jeopardize
The beauty of those sapphire eyes
Her innocence he neutralized
He was older, he was wise
Her use to him he recognized
He traded her as merchandise
And now she stares with empty eyes
Lustre lost, charm dims and dies
Far too late she realized
Now no matter what she tries
She won't regain those sparkling, sapphire eyes

'FOUR WHEEL FRENZY'
© 2006

The "transportaurus" breeds to fast
stealing land and air
She can kill yet she still gets
our tender loving care
We think that we control her moves
and grip her steering wheel
We sustain and service her
and caress her body of steel

as she breathes and drinks and purrs
while we scream inside
She knows that we would sacrifice
our lives to take a ride
Driving is a class A drug
Changes personality
Turns the mildest mannered man
to pure insanity
His wheels become his weapon
To threaten and abuse
If you indicate for space
He'll curse you and refuse
Now we all depend on her
We will not walk one mile
Without her we are nothing now
so we look at her and smile
Although she's choking us to death
We still look at her and smile

'FOOLS GOLD AND SILVER'
© 1993

Took many years to find myself
To be contented and at peace
Enjoy the hours spent by myself
The lonely fears have ceased
To be outside with the birds and the bees
Alone in my garden green
While you chase after gold and silver
Don't want to be part of your 'scene'
I found this place where both exist
I'm on a winning streak
While you're racing through your life
Playing games of hide and seek
Where will your spirit want to rest
You'll wish you'd listened more
When you hear the reaper
Come knocking on your door
There's gold and silver in the garden
Gold and silver in the trees
Gold and silver clouds above
That's enough wealth for me......

IT KEEPS ME AWAKE
© 1997

Innocents in prison - children in pain
Animals suffering - dying in vain
Forests shrinking - no fish in our seas
As we pour all our water down the drain

Nuclear testing on paradise shores
Oil and religion sends soldiers to war
Homeless in doorways as the elderly freeze
Does anyone know what they're all dying for?

We turn a blind eye to every appeal
Water, wood, oil and steel
Used as though the source never ends
How does that make you feel?

The debts and the bills and the race against time
Can we eat beef - should we drink wine?
Drenched everyday in toxins and fumes
Surfing the web - losing our minds

A planet left barren - your gift to your child
I don't think much of your choice
You've got to speak out - stand up and say no
Alone I'm just one tiny voice

I'll never stop trying to turn on the light
and hoping the world will read what I write
and it all keeps me awake at night....
Yes, it keeps me awake every night

'RESPECT'
© 2007

Don't fear, don't yearn
Just smile, live and learn
Work hard and enjoy
and peace is what you'll earn

Be brave, stand tall
Take heed and take care
This world is a gift
for all of us to share

Respect all life forms
and they will respect you
then when you most need it
One of them will come through....

'THE BOOK OF LIFE'
© 1992

Sometimes words don't come easy
and I scarcely believe
That my wishes were granted
and you no longer grieve
For the chapters that closed
In the days of your youth
Now a new book has opened
The book of the truth
Your eyes are all starry
and the world is your stage
and you're holding your breath
as you turn each new page...
